Dear Students ,
I’ve decided to create a fun activity involving endangered species in the state of Florida.
As we know many , many species of animals have become endangered throughout the years. So , basically I want to expand your knowledge on these species in our state. As you were able to see above I chose the Puma to make a small animal photo file and I included some information about the animal.
You will be doing something similar to this but with more pictures and more information.
The minimum number of pictures is 5, the information you need to provide is:
I’m providing a website with the names of all endangered species in Florida. Use this as a guide and then research the name of the animal you chose. The format of the activity is like the one shown above , feature the pictures of the animal first and then place the information under .
Objective: analyze the structure and elements of a story by noting the setting, characters, problem, events and resolution.
Materials: Train pattern of engine-with the words title and author with blanks for student to fill in. 4 Box car patterns with the words setting, characters, problem, and resolution- one word on each car with space for the student to fill in the information.
-Large 12\” x 18\” black construction paper.
-Green construction paper
-Small pine tree pattern
-Crayons, scissors and glue
Activity:
After watching “The Polar Express , read by Lou Diamond Phillips” video , analyze and write down the story elements of characters , setting , problem and resolution .
Each student will need to fill in the information for each train car: setting, character, problem, and resolution. The engine has the author and title. Next, they color and cut out the train cars. The student will color a mountain on the large piece of black construction paper. (Using the white crayons) Tracks can also be drawn going up and down the mountain. Then the student will glue their prepared train onto the paper. The engine with title and author and then the box cars with setting, characters, problem and solution. Finally the students can use the pine tree patterns and glue them around the page to finish their work.

Place Value of Six Digit Numbers
Numbers, such as 495,784, have six digits. Each digit is a different place value.
The first digit is called the hundred thousands’ place. It tells you how many sets of one hundred thousand are in the number. The number 495,784 has four hundred thousands.
The second digit is the ten thousands’ place. In this number there are nine ten thousands in addition to the four hundred thousands.
The third digit is the one thousands’ place which is five in this example. Therefore there are four sets of one hundred thousand, nine sets of ten thousand, and five sets of one thousand in the number 495,784.
The fourth digit is called the hundreds’ place. It tells how many sets of one hundred are in the number. The number 495,784 has seven hundreds in addition to the thousands.
The next digit is the tens’ place. This number has are eight tens in addition to the four hundred thousands, nine ten thousands, five thousands and seven hundreds.
The last or right digit is the ones’ place which is four in this example. Therefore there are four sets of one hundred thousand, nine sets of ten thousand, five sets of one thousand, seven sets of one hundred, eight sets of ten, and four ones in the number 495,784.

Yes , as we know February is Black History Month . We take this month to honor different African-American heroes. We all probably have a a basic understanding of what Black History month is about, but I want to take this opportunity to have a discussion about what your opinion is on different famous figures of African American descent . I want you to pick ONE famous African American figure and post a 3 paragraph comment describing what that person did to become famous and a hero and what your opinion is about their actions.
